Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending October 5, the US rig count fell by 11 to 1,837, following an 11-rig drop the previous week and a five-rig drop the week prior. Year-on-year, the US rig count is down 175. Rig searching for natural gas increased by two in the past week to 437, but the improvement was more than offset by a 12-rig drop in oil-directed drilling.

On the other hand, Canada's rig count increased by 13 to 372 after falling by four a week ago. Nonetheless, the rig count was down 150 year-on-year.
