According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on January 27, 2018, US domestic raw steel production was 1,719,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 73.8 percent.
Production for the week ending January 27, 2018 is up 1.5 percent from the previous week ending January 20, 2018 when production was 1,693,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.6 percent.
Production was 1,736,000 net tons in the week ending January 27, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 74.5 percent. The current week production represents a 1.0 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year.
Adjusted year-to-date production through January 27, 2018 was 6,522,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.5 percent. That is down 2.6 percent from the 6,697,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.5 percent.
