According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on May 26, 2018, domestic raw steel production was 1,789,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.3 percent.
Production for the week ending May 26, 2018 is up 0.8 percent from the previous week ending May 19, 2018 when production was 1,775,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 75.7 percent.
Production was 1,718,000 net tons in the week ending May 26, 2017 while the capability utilization then was 73.7 percent. The current week production represents a 4.1 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
Adjusted year-to-date production through May 26, 2018 was 36,813,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.6 percent. That is up 1.9 percent from the 36,124,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 74.3 percent.
