US raw steel production down 0.5 percent week on week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on August 17, 2019, US domestic raw steel production was 1,857,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 79.8 percent.

Production for the week ending August 17, 2019 is down 0.5 percent from the previous week ending August 10, 2019 when production was 1,867,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 80.2 percent.

Production was 1,861,000 net tons in the week ending August 17, 2018 while the capability utilization then was 79.4 percent. The current week production represents a 0.2 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year.

Adjusted year-to-date production through August 17, 2019 was 61,669,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 81.0 percent. That is up 4.5 percent from the 59,001,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.3 percent.
