US plates in coil imports up 6.6 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 125,795 mt in June 2023, up 6.6 percent from May but down 20,6 percent from June 2022 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $130.8 million in June 2023, compared to $125.6 million in May and $212.1 million in June 2022.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in June, with 72,477 mt, compared to 67,106 mt in May and 84,049 mt in June 2022. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in June include South Korea, with 26,033 mt; Mexico, with 12,864 mt; Netherlands, with 4,858 mt; and Germany, with 3,599 mt.
