US plates in coil imports up 5.1 percent in April

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 65,250 mt in April 2020, up 5.1 percent from March but down 36.9 percent from April 2019 levels. By value plates in coil imports totaled $41.0 million in April 2020, compared to $38.6 million in the previous month and $75.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in April, with 38,585 mt, compared to 50,586 mt in March and 44,170 mt in April 2019. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in April include Korea, with 7,290 mt; Sweden, with 4,284 mt; Germany, with 4,112 mt; and New Zealand, with 3,372 mt.
