According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 96,543 mt in February 2023, down 3.2 percent from January but up 19.5 percent from February 2022 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $85.1 million in February 2023, compared to $93.7 million in January and $121.9 million in February 2022.
The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in February, with 59,243 mt, compared to 63,267 mt in January and 51,026 mt in February 2022. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in February include Mexico, with 31,165 mt; South Korea, with 7,935 mt; Netherlands, with 2,544 mt; and Sweden, with 1,972 mt.
