US plates in coil imports down 1.4 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 104,129 mt in March 2023, down 1.4 percent from February and down 23.6 percent from March 2022 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $88.3 million in March 2023, compared to $85.1 million in February and $172.6 million in March 2022.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in March, with 70,554 mt, compared to 59,243 mt in February and 67,234 mt in March 2022. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in March include Mexico, with 31,165 mt; South Korea, with 2,544 mt; Netherlands, 2,544 mt; and Sweden, with 1,972 mt.
