US plates in coil imports down 12.4 percent in July

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of plates in coil totaled 110,237 mt in July 2023, down 12.4 percent from June and down 20.9 percent from July 2022 levels. By value, plates in coil imports totaled $109.9 million in July 2023, compared to $130.8 million in June and $178.8 million in July 2022.

The US imported the most plates in coil from Canada in July, with 59,641 mt, compared to 72,476 mt in June and 61,716 in July 2022. Other top sources of imported plates in coil in July include South Korea, with 27,779 mt; Mexico, with 9,991 mt; Japan, with 3,464 mt; and Netherlands, with 3,228 mt.
