US iron ore output up 9.9 percent in March from February

US iron ore production in March this year amounted to 3.76 million mt, increasing by 9.9 percent compared to February and up 20.5 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in March this year totaled 1.34 million mt, increasing by 648.6 percent compared to the previous month and up 3.1 percent compared to March 2016. 

In the first quarter of this year, US iron ore production totaled 10.4 million mt, rising by 13.2 percent compared to the January-March period of 2016, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 3.26 million mt, up 6.5 percent year on year.
