Lourenco Goncalves, CEO of US-based mining company and steel producer Cleveland-Cliffs has stated that the company’s subsidiary Northshore Mining in Minnesota has partially restarted operations at its Babbitt iron ore mine and Silver Bay pellet plant after being idled since May last year.

This decision was made due to the company’s increased steel production. However, the company does not expect to operate Northshore at full capacity this year. Northshore Mining has an annual mining and pelletizing capacity of six million mt.
