US iron ore output up 8.1 percent in May from April

US iron ore production in May this year amounted to 4.12 million mt, increasing by 8.1 percent compared to April and up by 7.3 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in May this year totaled 5.42 million mt, increasing by 29.6 percent compared to the previous month and up by 12.4 percent compared to May 2017.

In the January-May period of this year, US iron ore production totaled 19.5 million mt, rising by 6.5 percent compared to the same period of 2017, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 12.6 million mt, up by 2.4 percent year on year.
