US iron ore output up 4.3 percent in March from February

US iron ore production in March this year amounted to 4.07 million mt, increasing by 4.3 percent compared to February and up 8.2 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in March this year totaled 1.36 million mt, increasing by 535.5 percent compared to the previous month and up 1.5 percent compared to March 2017.

In the first quarter of this year, US iron ore production totaled 11.6 million mt, rising by 11.5 percent compared to the January-March period of 2017, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 3.05 million mt, down 6.4 percent year on year.
