US iron ore output up 3.3 percent in June from May

US iron ore production in June this year amounted to 3.78 million mt, increasing by 3.3 percent compared to May and up 31.7 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in June this year totaled 4.54 million mt, decreasing by 3.6 percent compared to the previous month and up by 3.2 percent compared to June 2015. 
 
In the first half of this year, US iron ore production totaled 19.2 million mt, falling by 17.9 percent compared to the January-June period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 16.7 million mt, decreasing by 1.2 percent year on year.
