US iron ore output down 3.9 percent in April from March

US iron ore production in April this year amounted to 2.74 million mt, decreasing by 3.9 percent compared to March and down 29.9 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in April this year totaled 4.29 million mt, increasing by 227.5 percent compared to the previous month and up by 19.2 percent compared to April 2015. 
 
In the first four months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 11.8 million mt, falling by 30.2 percent compared to the January-April period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 7.41 million mt, increasing by 4.6 percent year on year.
