US iron ore output down 12.6 percent in August from July

US iron ore production in August this year amounted to 3.88 million mt, decreasing by 12.6 percent compared to July and up by 1.8 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in August this year totaled 5.31 million mt, decreasing by 5.8 percent compared to the previous month and up by 1.9 percent compared to August 2017.

In the January-August period of this year, US iron ore production totaled 32.4 million mt, rising by 6.9 percent compared to the same period of 2017, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 29 million mt, up by 3.9 percent year on year.
