US cut-length plate imports up 62.5 percent in May

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut-length plate totaled 58,382 mt in May 2023, up 62.5 percent from April and up 69.2 percent from May 2022 levels. By value, cut-length plate imports totaled $85.0 million in May 2023, compared to $50.3 million in April and $56.1 million in May 2022.

The US imported the most cut-length plate from Canada in May, with 21,699 mt, compared to 16,172 mt in April and 16,579 mt in May 2022. Other top sources of imported cut-length plate in May include South Korea, with 15,244 mt; Australia, with 8,297 mt; Mexico, with 3,567 mt; and Sweden, with 3,071 mt.
