US cut-length plate imports down 36.3 percent in April

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cut-length plate totaled 35,919 mt in April 2023, down 36.3 percent from March and down 26.2 percent from April 2022 levels. By value, cut-length plate imports totaled $50.3 million in April 2023, compared to $78.9 million in March and $79.8 million in April 2022.

The US imported the most cut-length plate from Canada in April, with 16,172 mt, compared to 21,882 mt in March and 20,515 mt in April 2022. Other top sources of imported cut-length plate in April include South Korea, with 9,709 mt; Thailand, with 3,438 mt; Sweden, with 2,827 mt; and Mexico, with 1,659 mt.
