US CRC imports up 9.6 percent in January

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 139,318 mt in January 2019, up 9.6 percent from December but down 3.8 percent from January 2018 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $114.4 million in January 2019, compared to $106.5 million in the previous month and $114.3 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Mexico in January, with 27,105 mt, compared to 22,700 mt in December and 17,052 mt in January 2018. Other top sources of imported CRC in January include Canada, with 23,996 mt; Vietnam, with 23,092 mt; Australia, with 15,457 mt; Korea, with 11,003 mt; and Sweden, with 5,362 mt.
