US beam exports rise 11.2 percent in February

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of heavy structural shapes (including U, I, H, L, and T section beams) totaled 44,939 mt in February 2018, up 11.2 percent from January and up 15.9 percent from February 2017 levels. By value, beam exports totaled $39.8 million in February, compared to $34.4 million in the previous month and $34.9 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most beams to Canada in February with 37,519 mt, compared to 33,869 mt in January and 33,184 mt in February 2017. Other top destinations included Mexico, with 6,496 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US beam exports in February.
