US automakers post strong sales in March

Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Company and General Motors Company all reported improved automotive sales results for March.

Chrysler Group LLC reported US sales of 121,731 units, a 31 percent increase compared with sales in March 2010 (92,623 units). March 2011 sales are also up 28 percent from February 2011. March 2011 was also the strongest March for the Chrysler Group since 2008 and the highest sales for any month since May 2008.

March sales for the Ford Motor Company rose 19 percent over March 2010. Ford also reported that in the Q1 2011, total sales were 496,720, up 16 percent over a year ago.

Total unit sales in March for General Motors Company amounted to 206,621 units, or 11 percent higher than sales in March 2010. Q1 sales surged 26 percent to 592,545 units compared to Q1 2010.
