The three major US-based automakers reported significantly higher sales in June on Friday.
June retail sales were up 16 percent year-on-year for Detroit, Michigan-based General Motors; sales were also up 4 percent over May 2011. Unit sales rose 11 percent to 215,358 units in June.
The Auburn Hills, Michigan-based Chrysler Group saw retail sales surge 46 percent in June year-on-year, marking not only the best retail sales month so far this year, but also the 15th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. Chrysler's unit sales totaled 120,394 in June, representing a 30 percent increase year-on-year and the best June sales since 2007.
For Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford Motor Company, June sales totaled 194,114 units, up 14 percent versus a year ago. Year-to-date total sales for Ford are 1.07 million, up 12 percent from the same period a year ago.
