Union workers at Sidor go on a general strike today

According to recent reports, yesterday union workers at Venezuelan steelmaker Siderurgica del Orinoco (Sidor) declared that they are to go on a general strike today. Besides, in the middle of last month, union workers started a go-slow in operations due to unfavorable working conditions and dispute over bonus payments and this move halved production. Officials of Sidor express that it will be hard to achieve the annual target set as 3.5 million tons for this year. It is also stated that the company took necessary precautions in order to secure its domestic and abroad deliveries. Union workers account for about 53% of the steel company's 5.700 total workforce.
