Ukrainian steelmakers issue 2006 production data

The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for 2006. Accordingly, Makeevsk Metallurgical Plant (Makeevsk) increased it finished steel products output by 1.46 times, its crude steel production by 1.52 times and its pig iron production by 1.57 times year on year in 2006. The respective figures in million metric tons were 1.3, 1.6 and 1.3. During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 0.6 percent increase in its finished steel products output, a 2.2 percent rise in its crude steel production, a 4.4 percent increase in its pig iron production, but saw a 7.9 decrease in its agglomerate production year on year in 2006. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 5.3 million, six million, five million and 1.9 million. Istil in 2006 produced 863,000 metric tons of finished steel products – up 17.3 percent, and 920,000 metric tons of crude steel- up 13.4 percent, compared to the year 2005. Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) saw a 13.2 percent rise in its finished steel products output, a 1.3 percent increase in its pig iron production, a 3.5 percent increase in its agglomerate output, but a 0.2 percent decrease in its crude steel production. The respective figures in metric tons were 3.3 million, three million, five million and 3.7 million. In 2006 Enakievsk MZ (EMZ) produced 2.6 million metric tons of finished steel products – up 19.3 percent, 2.6 million metric tons of crude steel – up 13 percent, 2.2 million metric tons of pig iron – up 13 percent, and 2.1 million metric tons of agglomerate – down 11.3 percent compared to 2005. During the same period, Mittal Steel Kriviy Rih saw a 12.2 percent increase in its finished steel output to 6.9 million metric tons, an 8.9 percent increase in its crude steel production to 7.6 million metric tons, a 10.4 percent increase in its pig iron production to 6.8 million metric tons and a 13.1 percent increase in its agglomerate production to 11.3 million metric tons year on year. Finally, in 2006 Zaporizhstal raised its finished steel products output by 0.3 percent, its crude steel production by 0.4 percent, but saw a 0.2 percent and 0.1 percent decrease in its pig iron and agglomerate productions respectively year on year.
