Ukrainian ports’ January 2005 metal handling

Ukrainian State seaports association UkrMorPort reports that seaports in Ukraine processed 2'038 million tons of metal cargo in January 2005, a 15.4% rise in activity year-on-year. The quantity of metal exports increased 14.2% year-on-year to 1.73 million tons. Rolled ferrous metals handling increased 16% year-on-year to 879 thousand tons. Transit cargoes made up 45.4 thousand tons of this figure. The quantity of transit metal cargoes represents a 41% decrease. The quantity of cast iron handled by Ukrainian ports increased 75% to 361 thousand tons. Transit cast iron cargoes showed a 42.9% increase to 216.7 thousand tons.
