Ukraine-based Zaporizhstal steel mill, which belongs to Metinvest, has announced that it has completed the first stage of a major overhaul at its hot rolling shop, covering the Slabbing 1150 and BTLS-1680 rolling mills. Zaporizhstal allocated approximately UAH 9.8 million ($223.61 million) for the first stage of the overhaul.
The maintenance program is being carried out in phases throughout the year, with the first stage completed ahead of schedule.
As part of the overhaul, Slabbing 1150 received new spindles for the horizontal roll stand, repairs to the hydraulic system, restoration of stand components, and repairs to sections of the roller table and transmission gearbox.
In addition, at the BTLS-1680 unit, the work included: overhaul of the gearbox of stand No. 2 with shaft component replacement, restoration of the drive line of one stand, replacement of a gear roll, and replacement of chains in sections of the roller table.
The next phase of the capital repair program is scheduled for autumn 2026, as part of the company’s ongoing maintenance strategy.
