Ukraine’s steel industry increases power consumption by 20.6 percent in Jan-Aug

In January-August 2010, Ukraine increased its electric power consumption, including technical losses in networks, by 10.2 percent year on year to 119.8 billion kWh. Meanwhile, excluding technical losses, the country's power consumption went up by 11 percent year on year to 96.8 billion kWh.
 
In the first eight months of this year, Ukraine's industry increased its power consumption by 14.9 percent year on year, excluding technical losses, to about 46.9 billion kWh. Of this number, the country's steel industry consumed power in the amount of 25.5 billion kWh - up 20.6 percent, the chemical and petrochemical industry consumed 3.37 billion kWh - up 15 percent, and the machine building industry consumed 3.8 billion KWh - up 21.1 percent, all compared to January-August 2009.

Industry's share in Ukraine's total consumption of electric power increased to 48.4 percent in January-August 2010, from 46.8 percent in January-August 2009.
