Dneprovsky Iron and Steel Works named after F. Dzerzhinsky (DMKD), a subsidiary of the Ukrainian steelmaker Industrial Union of Donbass (ISD), has completed the overhaul of its continuous billet caster No. 1.

Accordingly, during the overhaul DMKD improved the continuous billet caster's water supply system, and repaired and replaced parts of the caster. The current overhaul was the first one since the commissioning of the continuous billet caster in September 2008.

Meanwhile, DMKD continues to reconstruct its blast furnace No. 9, aiming to increase its volume to 1,640 m3, and plans by the end of the first half of this year to complete the construction of its new 1.7 million mt capacity continuous billet caster No. 3.

In April this year, DMKD registered a 0.7 percent increase in its finished steel product output to 285,000 mt, but posted a 3.3 percent decrease in its crude steel production to 291,000 mt and an 8.2 percent drop in its pig iron output to 257,000 mt, all compared to March.
