Ukraine’s coal mining output up 1.2% in January-May

In the January-May period of the current year Ukraine's coal mining output increased by 1.2 percent year on year to 34.376 million mt, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry.

Meanwhile, in May alone Ukraine's coal mining production amounted to 6.508 million mt, up 8.9 percent compared to May 2013. This volume included 1.648 million mt of coking coal and 4.860 million mt of thermal coal.

In the meantime, in the first five months of this year Ukrainian state mines saw losses from commodity output production (not taking into account state support) increase by one percent compared to the same period last year to UAH 6.03 billion ($0.507 billion).

Within the period in question, the state budget invested UAH 5.166 billion ($0.434 billion) in the partial covering of expenses caused by the prime cost of coal goods.

In May alone, Ukrainian state mines' losses increased by six percent compared to May 2013 to UAH 1.217 billion ($0.102 billion).
