UK GDP up 0.4 percent in Q1 from Q4

The UK National Statistics Office has announced that the country's GDP (gross domestic product) grew 0.4 percent in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the fourth quarter of the previous year and was up by 2.9 percent year on year.

Growth in the production industries dropped 0.2 percent in the first quarter compared to the previous quarter. In the first quarter, mining and quarrying, including oil and gas extraction, fell by 0.5 percent, while manufacturing output and output in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply industries rose by 0.1 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively both quarter on quarter. 

Meanwhile, growth in UK’s production output rose by one percent compared to the same quarter of 2014. Manufacturing output increased by 1.4 percent and output in electricity, gas, steam and air condititoning supply industries recorded a 4.1 percent growth, while mining and quarrying including oil and gas extraction fell by 0.7 percent, all year on year.
