Two large coal groups in Shanxi achieve outputs of over 100 million mt in 2010

On December 26, Shanxi Province-based Chinese coal company Datong Coal Mine Group's coal production for the current year exceeded 100,000,000 mt, while on December 25 Shanxi Coking Coal Group, also based in the same province, recorded a coal output of 100,290,000 mt to date in 2010.

Shanxi Coking Coal Group's current coal production has grown by 2.2 times compared with its output in 2001. In line with mergers and acquisitions in Shanxi Province, Shanxi Coking Coal Group has integrated 169 small mines into 69 mines, with its total number of mines reaching 101 and with its total production capacity amounting to 137,800,000 mt of coal per year. Meanwhile, Datong Coal Mine Group's coal reserves have reached 32,040,000,000 mt following integration activity.

Currently, the number of coal mines in Shanxi Province has been reduced from more than 2,200 to just over 130. Four large coal groups have been formed in the province with annual production capacities of more than 100 million mt, three groups have annual production capacities of more than 50 million mt, while 11 groups have annual capacities of more than 10 million mt.
