Turkish motor vehicle sales up 17.3 percent in Jan-Feb

According to the Turkish Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD), in the first two months of the current year motor vehicle sales in Turkey totaled 88,025 units, rising by 17.3 percent as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. Meanwhile, in February Turkey's motor vehicle sales saw an increase of 37 percent month on month and were up 16.1 percent compared to the same month of 2012, totaling 50,885 units.

In the first two months of this year, Turkey's passenger car sales amounted to 62,649 units, rising by 24.6 percent year on year. In February, passenger car sales in Turkey rose by 26.1 percent year on year to 36,814 units, up 42.5 percent compared to December 2012.
 
In the first two months, Turkey's motor vehicle exports came to 132,606 units, rising by five percent, while its passenger car exports amounted to 68,880 units, falling by two percent, both compared to the same period last year. The country exported 55,327 units of small trucks in the period in question, up nine percent year on year. The revenue for total motor vehicle and component exports in the January-February period amounted to $3.3 billion, rising two percent, while the revenue of passenger car exports totaled $1 billion, falling by two percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2012.

In the first two months of 2013, Turkey's passenger car imports rose by 43.9 percent year on year, totaling 47,991 units. In the given period, Turkey's total motor vehicle imports amounted to 57,952 units, rising by 29.6 percent year on year.
