Turkish construction output index down slightly in Q3

On December 18, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUİK) released the domestic construction sector indicators for the third quarter of 2012.

Accordingly, in the quarter in question, the production index in Turkey's domestic construction sector decreased by 0.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, the production index in domestic building construction fell from 136.4 to 135.4, decreasing by 0.8 percent, while the production index in civil engineering fell from 178.2 to 177.6, decreasing by 0.3 percent, all compared to the third quarter of 2011.

Moreover, the turnover index in the domestic construction sector in the third quarter of 2012, with the base year 2005 = 100 and calculated according to the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community, Rev. 2 (NACE Rev.2), increased by 7.7 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, mainly driven by the 16 percent increase in the turnover index in builging construction.
