Turkish construction turnover index up 25.7 percent in Q1

On July 4, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) released the domestic construction sector indicators (base year 2010 = 100 and calculated according to the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the European Community, Rev. 2 (NACE Rev.2)) for the first quarter of 2013.

Accordingly, in the quarter in question, the calender adjusted production index in Turkey's domestic construction sector increased by 7.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The production index in domestic building construction fell from 96.5 to 89.1, decreasing by 7.6 percent, while the production index in civil engineering rose from 75.1 to 128.3, increasing by 70.9 percent, both compared to the first quarter of 2012. Meanwhile, the seasonal and calendar adjusted production index for the construction sector rose by 2.4 percent in the first quarter of 2013 over the fourth quarter of the previous year. 

Moreover, the calendar adjusted turnover index in the domestic construction sector in the first quarter of 2013 increased by 25.7 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year, mainly driven by the 62.8 percent increase in the turnover index for civil engineering.
