Turkey’s Tosyalı Holding has signed an agreement with US-based energy company GE Vernova and the latter’s Turkey-based business partner Inogen to implement a 1.2-GW solar power project for self-consumption in Turkey, according to media reports.

Considered to be one of the world’s largest solar projects for self-consumption, the 1.2 GW project will be implemented in three stages, with the construction of the first 120 MW already begun in Osmaniye and scheduled for start-up this year, while the entire project is due for completion in 2027.

In the meantime, within the scope of the large-scale project, starting with Osmaniye, Tosyalı’s own N-Type Topcon 725 Wp solar panels will be installed across solar power sites in eight provinces in Turkey. As a result, the company aims to meet approximately 50 percent of its energy needs, further strengthening its position among global green steelmakers and becoming more independent in energy usage.

“We are increasing our share of renewable energy in steel production day by day. Currently, our solar energy capacity amounts to 235 MW. However, we will increase our capacity to 1.5 GW. We have launched a 1.2-GW solar energy investment in eight different provinces in Turkey. We will implement this investment in three stages over the next 1.5 years and will invest about $1 billion in this field. We will become the only steelmaker that meets its renewable energy needs in steel production with self-consumption,” Fuat Tosyalı, chairman of the executive board of the company, commented.
