Turkey’s scrap imports up 1.65 percent in H1

In June this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 33.2 percent year on year to 1.3 million metric tons and was down 38.1 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $361.4 million, down 28.3 percent year on year and down 38.8 percent compared to May.

In the first six months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 9.33 million mt, rising by 1.65 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 28.6 percent to $2.54 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 1,492,058 mt of scrap from the US, down 21.32 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the Netherlands which supplied 1,301,984 mt in the given period, up 3.99 percent year on year.
