Turkey’s scrap imports up 15.5 percent in H1

In June this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 41.2 percent year on year to 1.83 million metric tons and was up 10.9 percent compared to May, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $654.2 million, up 81 percent year on year and rising by 8.16 percent month on month.

In the first half of the current year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 10.77 million mt, up 15.5 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 48.3 percent to $3.77 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 1,982,782 mt of scrap from the US, up 32.89 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 1,511,879 mt in the given period, up 19.85 percent year on year.
