Turkey’s scrap imports down 5.33 percent in January-February

In February this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 40 percent year on year and was up 5.1 percent month on month to 1.44 million metric tons, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $456.77 million, up 13.5 percent year on year and rising by 4.4 percent compared to the previous month.


 
In the first two months of this year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 2.82 million mt, falling 5.33 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 23.5 percent to $894.2 million, both compared to the first two months of 2014.
 
In the January-February period this year, Turkey imported 563,104 mt of scrap from the UK, 88.3 percent higher year on year, ranking as Turkey's main scrap import source, ahead of the US which supplied 482,371 mt in the given period, down 27.66 percent year on year.
