Turkey's scrap imports up 4.9 percent in H1

In June this year, Turkey's steel scrap import volume decreased by 4.9 percent month on month to 1.75 million metric tons, up 2.39 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of this import volume totaled $655.7 million, down 4.45 percent month on month and increasing by 0.48 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the first half of this year Turkey's steel scrap import volume increased by 4.93 percent to 9.73 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $3.69 billion, up 1.11 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first six months, Turkey imported 1.93 million mt of steel scrap from the US, down 28.5 percent year on year, though the US remained first among Turkey's steel scrap import sources in the given period, ahead of Russia which imported 1.42 million mt of steel scrap from Turkey, up 55.22 percent year on year. In June alone, Turkey's steel scrap imports from the US decreased by 35.04 percent year on year to 331,901 mt.
