In January this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 10.3 percent year on year to 1.68 million metric tons and was down 16.9 percent compared to December 2017, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $539.9 million, up 37.8 percent year on year and down 16.5 percent month on month.
In the given month, Turkey imported 396,300 mt of scrap from the US, up 30.74 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 213,095 mt in the given period, up 16.32 percent year on year.
