In the January-March period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 26.2 percent to 5.4 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $1.8 billion with a 60.3 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the January-March period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 22.4 percent to 990,000 mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 15.5 percent to 3.2 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 659,000 mt, up 77.1 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 60 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 18.4 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 12.3 percent.
