Turkey’s pig iron imports hit all-time high in 2012

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in 2012 Turkey's pig iron imports totaled 1.4 million metric tons, increasing 21 percent compared to 2011 and hitting their highest historical annual level.
 
In 2012, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports was $453/mt according to TUIK data, falling from the average of $526/mt recorded in the previous year. The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in 2012 was $624 million, up 4.3 percent compared to 2011.
 
Turkey's pig iron imports from Ukraine in the period in question amounted to 931,354 metric tons, up 87.15 compared to the previous year, while imports from Russia, Turkey's second largest pig iron source, amounted to 373,636 mt in 2012, down 24.4 percent year on year.

In December 2012, Turkey's pig iron imports rose 52.3 percent compared to the previous month and were down 17.7 percent compared to December 2011, totaling 149,563 metric tons.
