Turkey's pig iron imports down 49.2 percent in October from September

In October this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 30,178 mt, decreasing by 49.2 percent month on month and down 40.9 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $13.3 million, down 47.6 percent month on month and falling 39.1 percent compared to October 2013. According to the data for October this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $440.5/mt, increasing by $13.24/mt from the average of $427.26/mt recorded in September.

 

Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 10.8 percent to 770,045 mt, while the value of these imports rose by 11 percent to $328.37 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first 10 months of this year, Turkey imported 438,459 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 2.16 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 293,391 mt, up 48.69 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in October alone, Russia was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 28,236 mt.
