Turkey's pig iron imports up 14.3 percent in January-August

In August this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 68,119 mt, decreasing by 7.5 percent month on month and down 12 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $28.39 million, down 11.1 percent month on month and decreasing by 11.2 percent compared to August 2013. According to the data for August this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $416.8/mt, decreasing from the average of $433.7/mt recorded in July.

Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 14.3 percent to 680,408 mt, while the value of these imports rose 14.6 percent to $289.68 million, both on year-on-year basis.

In the first eight months of this year, Turkey imported 424,437 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 17.17 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 218,095 mt, up 20.53 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in August alone, Ukraine was Turkey's leading source of pig iron imports, supplying 55,480 mt, down 13.12 percent year on year.
