In February this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 65,082 mt, decreasing by 53.63 percent month on month and down 51.44 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $27.51 million, down 53.69 percent month on month and decreasing by 49.89 percent compared to February 2013. According to the data for February this year, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $422.64/mt, decreasing from the average of $429.79/mt recorded in January.
Meanwhile, in the first two months of the current year, Turkey's pig iron imports increased by 5.93 percent to 203,267 mt, while the value of these exports rose 10.46 percent to $86.90 million, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first two months of this year, Turkey imported 147,083 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 40.04 percent year on year. Ukraine ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Russia which supplied 43,846 mt, down 42.07 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in February this year, Ukraine was the source of most of Turkey's pig iron imports, supplying 59,076 metric tons.
