In January this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 138,185 mt, decreasing by 37.71 percent month on month and up 130.61 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month was $59.39 million, up 34.74 percent month on month and increasing by 149.80 percent compared to January 2013. According to the data for January, the average price for Turkish pig iron imports in the given month was $429.79/mt, increasing from the average of $410.23/mt recorded in December.
In January of the current year, Turkey imported 88,007 metric tons of pig iron from Ukraine, up 227.16 percent year on year. Ukraine remained Turkey's largest pig iron import source in the month in question, followed by Russia which supplied 37,888 mt, up 44.88 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the given month Turkey's pig iron imports from South Africa totaled 12,000 mt, up 103.39 percent compared to January 2013.
