In December last year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.18 million mt, up 46.7 percent month on month and falling by 57.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 41.2 percent to $99.72 million compared to the previous month and was down 73.4 percent year on year.
In 2017, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 10.93 million mt, up 4.9 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 44.8 percent to $1.01 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 4,663,342 mt, down 9.84 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 1,895,054 mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 1,516,485 mt.
