In March this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.56 million mt, increasing by 40.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 46 percent year on year to $155.6 million. In February this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports had totaled 298,672 mt, while the value of these imports was $21.19 million.
Meanwhile, in the first three months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 2.81 million metric tons, up 15.7 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $265.5 million, increasing by 20.1 percent compared to same period of 2018.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 1.59 million mt, up 82.6 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 565,131 mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from South Africa in the given period amounted to 172,362mt.
