Turkey’s industrial turnover index decreases in October

According to the statistics released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TUIK), Turkey's monthly industrial turnover index in October this year decreased by 5.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, falling for the first time on year-on-year basis since October 2009 and was down by 4.4 percent from September this year.

In October, the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of basic metals in Turkey decreased by 10.1 percent year on year, constituting the third consecutive month with stronger year-on year decrease rates every month, following the continuous year-on-year uptrend which had been observed since January 2010. Meanwhile, the industrial turnover index for the manufacture of basic metals registered a 4.2 percent decrease from the previous month. The industrial turnover index for fabricated metal products manufacturing, except machinery and equipment, recorded a decrease of 7.2 percent year on year in October and fell by 2.7 percent from the previous month.

Meanwhile, in October this year, the industrial new orders index for the manufacture of basic metals decreased by 1.7 percent from September and was down 7.4 percent year on year, being the fourth month of year-on-year decrease following 30 months of uptrend. The industrial new orders index for the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, in October this year decreased by 12.5 percent compared to the same month of 2011 and was down 5.1 percent compared to the previous month.
