Turkey’s Çemtaş to build solar power plant in Kars

Turkish steel producer Çemtaş Çelik Makine Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Çemtaş) has announced that it has signed a contract worth $30.9 million with Turkey-based CW Enerji Mühendislik Ticaret A.Ş. for a solar power plant to be built in Kars in northeastern Turkey, in order to achieve its sustainability targets and reduce its carbon footprint amid high energy costs.

It is anticipated that approximately more than 50 percent of the company’s current electricity consumption will be met with its existing rooftop solar power plant and the new investment.

The power plant, which will have an installed capacity of 32 MWe, is scheduled to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2024.
